NYC is incredible.
It's also a lot.

When you're new to the city, on an intern budget, and working long hours — figuring out what to do after work shouldn't be another stressful thing to figure out. The good spots exist. They're just buried under tourist traps, expensive restaurant guides, and recommendations that assume you have unlimited time and money.

after5nyc started as a personal list. Every good spot I found, every cheap dinner that was actually worth it, every free thing that felt genuinely New York — I kept notes. This is that list, turned into something shareable.

Everything here is intern-tested. If it's on the site, it's actually good.

Who is this for?+
Primarily NYC summer interns — especially people who are new to the city and don't have an existing network of friends to ask for recommendations. That said, anyone who wants curated, budget-conscious NYC picks will find it useful.
How do spots get added?+
Every spot on the site has been personally vetted or submitted by an intern. Nothing gets added just because it's popular or well-reviewed online. If it's here, someone with an intern budget thought it was worth it.
Can I submit a spot?+
Yes — that's the whole point. Hit the "Submit a spot" button on any page and fill in the details. Good submissions get reviewed and added within a few days. The more interns contribute, the better the site gets for everyone.
Is any of this sponsored or paid?+
No. Nothing on this site is paid placement or sponsored content. No restaurant has paid to be listed here. Everything is here because it's genuinely good for interns on a budget — that's the only criteria.
How does the AI Plan Generator work?+
It's not quite AI... yet — it's a smart recommendation engine. You tell it your vibe, budget, neighborhood, and group size, and it builds a sequenced night out from the curated spot database. It prioritises spots near your chosen neighborhood and filters by budget. Think of it as a very opinionated friend who knows the city well.
Prices seem off — is the site updated?+
Prices are updated regularly but NYC menus change constantly. Always check the spot's own menu or Google for the latest. If something is noticeably wrong, submit a correction via the Submit page and it'll get fixed quickly.
I'm not an intern — can I still use this?+
Of course. The site is free and public. The focus is intern-friendly budgets and vibes but honestly most of the spots are just good NYC recommendations for anyone who doesn't want to spend $40 on a cocktail.
Will you expand beyond NYC?+
Maybe eventually — Boston, DC, Chicago, and LA all have big intern summers. But the goal right now is to make the NYC version genuinely excellent before expanding anywhere. Quality over coverage.
